Mission

A regional AI talent pipeline for Greater Richmond

Problem statement

There is a regional market gap in Greater Richmond: employers are beginning to identify AI-enabled roles and skill needs, workers are being displaced or pressured to transition, and the region lacks the shared infrastructure to connect confirmed demand with available, trainable talent.

This project addresses that gap by creating a regional AI talent pipeline that starts with employer demand. The platform identifies confirmed openings, maps those roles to required skills, and surfaces transition-ready candidates from displaced, reskilled, and adjacent-role workers who can move into AI-enabled careers with targeted support.

The worker experience is the mechanism that makes the pipeline work. Individuals can see where they can go, what skills they already have, what gaps remain, and which employers are hiring. Employers gain access to a clearer, more responsive talent pool. Training partners gain better signals about what to teach. The region gains the connective infrastructure needed to turn AI disruption into workforce mobility and economic opportunity.

The desired solution

A regional career transition map for Greater Richmond, delivered in 60 days, built by a cross-sector working group. Not a report. Not a framework. A functional tool that answers three questions for a worker in a declining role.

What am I missing?

What specific skills and capabilities am I missing to get there — and what resources exist to help me bridge the gap?

Who is hiring?

Which employers here are actively hiring for those roles right now?

Where can I go?

Where are the adjacent, in-demand roles in this region that I can realistically reach?
